Our garden club, "Marantha Garden Friends," met yesterday at member Cheryl Luce's home, April 14th to decorate and paint several garden items: paper fans, hats and gloves. Here is the instructions for the cute pair of “Carrot Gloves,” by artist, Sue Bailey.


PALETTE

Folk Art Acrylic Colors: Hunter Green, Ivory Black, Yellow Medium, Pure Orange, Burnt Sienna, Titanium White

OTHER MATERIALS

Pair of plain fabric work gloves, Folk Art Textile Medium, Large paintbrush for laying down main color, liner brush for details and small stencil brush for carrot tops.

PAINT THE DESIGN

1. Put each glove on hand as you paint it. This makes it easier to paint. Base all of front and back of each with Pure Orange.

2. Shade between fingers and seams with Burnt Sienna.

3. Highlight on fingers with Yellow Medium, then with Yellow Medium + Titanium White

4. Paint line-work with Ivory Black

5. Dab on carrot top foliage with Hunter Green + Ivory Black, then with Hunter Green + Yellow Medium, then with Yellow Medium + Titanium White.

FINISH

Embellish with ribbon, buttons use your imagination.
When dry, heat-set gloves for 15 seconds with dry iron.

Meeting Notes for February 20, 2010

We had a small group meet this time, seems like our Saturday obligations are already getting heavy. Those of us that could make it discussed a joint seed order from Henry Fields seed company and a field trip to Antique Rose Emporium and either Brenham for lunch and siteseeing or Marthas Bloomers on the way home for some tea and dessert.

The tenative date is set for Saturday, April 24th. This may change is enough of us can go on a day of the week. A little less crowded that way.

Will be informing members of the definate plans in the near future. Keep checking the website for updates.

Meeting Notes for October 17, 2009

We held our second garden club meeting at the home of Carolyn Guillotte. It was a beautiful Fall day. Carolyn shared information about French Intensive or Permiculture gardening. This will be discussed in a more detailed blog posting.

It was decided that she would provide information to share with this blog site and its' followers. Carolyn has been involved in some intensive garden seminars at Texas A & M. Dr. Joe Novak has primarily been the keynote speaker and is known for his expertise in this area.

Member Barbara McDougald brought a Wildflower Center magazine to share not only how to plant wildflowers, but how to propagate plants. Look for the details in another blog posting.

We also enjoyed touring her garden area and seeing the beginning stages of a Burm. Burms are mounds of sand, leaves, and later top soil placed on top of old fallen tree limbs. She informed us that these piles are perfect areas to grow an herb garden.

The group also enjoyed wonderful refreshments of cheesecake and beverages. Not to mention before we all left we were given wildflower seeds to plant for the Spring.

Our meetings for now will be not on a monthly basis, but a quarterly one. Be sure to check the website for all of the updates of what the group will be doing in 2010.
